چکیده

We computationally investigate supercontinuum generation in an As2S3 solid core photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with a hexagonal cladding of air holes. With a goal of obtaining a supercontinuum output spectrum that can predict what might be seen in an experiment, we investigate the spectral and statistical behavior of a mid-infrared supercontinuum source using a large ensemble average of 106 realizations, in which the input pulse duration and energy vary. The output spectrum is sensitive to small changes (0.1%) in these pulse parameters. We show that the spectrum can be divided into three regions with distinct characteristics: a short-wavelength region with high correlation, a middle-wavelength region with minimal correlation, and a long-wavelength region where the behavior is dominated by a few rare large-bandwidth events. We show that statistically significant fluctuations exist in the experimentally expected output spectrum and that we can reproduce an excellent match to that spectrum with a converged shape and bandwidth using 5000 realizations. © 2014 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (060.2390) Fiber optics, infrared; (320.6629) Supercontinuum generation. Increased mid-infrared supercontinuum bandwidth and average power by tapering large-mode-area chalcogenide photonic crystal fibers.

The trade-off between the spectral bandwidth and average output power from chalcogenide fiber-based mid-infrared supercontinuum sources is one of the major challenges towards practical application of the technology. In this paper we address this challenge through tapering of large-mode-area chalcogenide photonic crystal fibers. Compared to previously reported step-index fiber tapers the photoni...

A mid-IR source with increased bandwidth using tapered As2S3 chalcogenide photonic crystal fibers

We present simulation results for supercontinuum generation using tapered As2S3 chalcogenide photonic crystal fibers (PCFs). We demonstrate that an increased soliton self-frequency shift can be achieved using a tapered PCF. There is an optimal tapered PCF, which yields an additional 0:4 mm shift to longer wavelengths relative to the shift that is obtained in an untapered PCF, leading to an incr...

Computational study of 3–5 μm source created by using supercontinuum generation in As2S3 chalcogenide fibers with a pump at 2 μm

We present simulation results for supercontinuum generation using As2S3 chalcogenide photonic crystal fibers. We found that more than 25% of input power can be shifted into the region between 3 μm and 5 μm using a pump wavelength of 2 μm with a peak power of 1 kW and an FWHM of 500 fs. The broad dispersion profile and high nonlinearity in As2S3 chalcogenide glass are essential for this applicat...

In this paper, we report the numerical analysis of a photonic crystal fiber (PCF) for generating an efficient supercontinuum medium. For our computational studies, the core of the proposed structure is made up of As2Se3 and the cladding structure consists of an inner ring of holes made up As2Se3 and four outer rings of air holes in MgF2. The proposed structure provides excellent nonlinear coeff...
